Presbyterian Women

The Presbyterian Women take an active role in various ministries.

The Jumble Sale is scheduled for two days at the end of April and two days at the end of September. Donations of clothing, household items, books, toys, etc. are received a few weeks prior to the sale. Proceeds from the sale are given for mission work and to local ministers such as, Rescue Workers (http://www.arwwilliamsport.org/), Family Promise (http://www.familypromiselycoming.org/), and Sojourner Truth Ministries (http://stmwilliamsport.org/).

The evening of Ash Wednesday, a Lenten Dinner (bring a dish to share) is scheduled before the worship service.

A formal tea is held after our Palm Sunday worship service to welcome new members who have joined during the past year.

During the Advent Season, we are involved in several activities. A tree decorated with chrismon ornaments (made by the Presbyterian Women) is placed in the lounge for everyone to enjoy. We have a Christmas party for the residents of the Presbyterian Home (http://www.presbyterianseniorliving.org/presbyterian-home-at-williamsport) that features singing carols, a story read by one of our members, gifts for the residents, and refreshments. A small Angel tree is displayed in the lounge that has paper angels with gender and age of a child. Members of the congregation choose an angel and purchase a gift. These are then given to the children at Sojourner Truth Ministries

We decorate the Sanctuary on Easter Sunday with Spring flowers and during the Christmas season with poinsettias provided by the congregation.

A thank offering is collected in November and this funds projects such as agricultural development, child care, community organizations, homelessness, literacy and women’s concerns. Forty percent of the offering supports, health ministers throughout the world. Projects must meet the criteria established by the Presbyterian Women.

Twice a year we participate with the Presbyterian Women of the Northumberland Presbytery (http://northumberlandpresbytery.org/) in the Spring and Fall Gathering. We also attend meetings of the church woman United of Lycoming County.

Our church was chosen to be included in the Williamsport Victorian Historic Homes Tour in 2013 and 2015. We prepare for this by decorating our lounge with art and crafts made by the women in the congregation. We are also happy to share our beautiful sanctuary with those on the tour.
